Hand-printed Relief Print, on high quality 320gsm Somerset Paper, at Glasgow Print Studio, 62 cm x 40 cm approx. Edition of 10, unframed.
This print was made using relief printing techniques on wood. These include hand cut, laser cut and laser etched processes, and the print is built up in a series of layers using different coloured inks, hand printed by the artist.
Boraraigh is a tiny uninhabited island, off Hirta, the main island of St Kilda, in the far reaches of the Outer Hebrides. The islanders from St Kilda, travelled there by boat in the summer months in order to catch gannets, a type of seabird, that was very important to them, and that they used for many purposes including eating, and collecting oil. It was a dangerous and arduous endeavour.
I created this print from photographs I took on a boat trip there, on a visit to St. Kilda in the summer of 2017.
