Boraraigh is a tiny uninhabited island, off the coast of Hirta, St Kilda, in the far reaches of the Outer Hebrides. The islanders from St Kilda, travelled there by boat in the summer months in order to catch gannets, a type of seabird, that was very important to them, and that they used for many purposes including eating, and collecting oil. It was a dangerous and arduous endeavour.
I created this print from photographs I took on a boat trip there, on a visit to St. Kilda in summer of 2017.
This print is made using wood-cut relief and Lino-cut techniques hand printed by the artist creating a unique set of prints, as each one is very slightly different. Printed at Glasgow Print Studio.
